Baby Come Back: China Implores More Children as Birth Rate Hits RECORD LOW
After decades of encouraging couples to do the opposite, China is urging its citizens to have more kids.
The mainland's birth rate dropped to 7.52 per 1,000 people last year, according to national statistics; the lowest since stats began in 1949. The trend saw Beijing allow families to have up to three children in 2021, after scrapping the 'one-child' policy in 2016.
However, high urban-living costs have seen many reluctant with a rapidly ageing population.
