Aviem Sella has been given a symbolic promotion to general by the Israeli army, just months after being let off a decades-long US extradition hunt by Donald Trump in his last hours in office.

Sella was at the centre of US-Israeli tensions in the 1980s having recruited Navy intelligence analyst Jonathan Pollard, and later resigned when a scandal erupted over his 1987 promotion.
