Chief Whip of the Freedom Front Plus party, Corné Mulder: "It's not a question why the Western Cape should or should not [be independent], it's a reality that's playing itself out, it's going to happen, it's only a question of when and how"

Farm murder: Farmer found bludgeoned to death on his farm, Alkmaar

A farm murder took place on 29 September 2022, at 20:00, on a farm in the Alkmaar area in the Lowveld, in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.

Etienne du Toit (53) left his home at 20:00 to go attend to the water pumps on his farm.

After not returning his son went to look for him at 21:00.

Etienne du Toit was found brutally murdered, lying in a pool of blood. His cell phone was next to him and the safe keys were still in his pocket. Nothing was stolen.

An iron rod was found next to his body and it seems that he was violently assaulted and bludgeoned to death by an unknown number of attackers.

Police are investigating but there have been no arrests.

There is no other information available at this stage.

2022-09-29 16:07:03 Commentary: Recently, the ruling African National Congress's Youth League (ANCYL) went to observe the referendums held in Russian held territories of eastern Ukraine.

This might come as a surprise to some readers who observed that the South African government previously abstained from explicitly choosing to support either side in the conflict. However, we have discussed before that the ANC supports Russia due to old ties from the Cold War period.

It appears that the ANC sent the ANCYL specifically to separate state and party politics. This is similar to their approach on the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. The South African government doesn't explicitly support either, but the ruling party publicly supports the people of Palestine.

Both the United States and European Union has pledged to increase sanctions against Russia as a result of the referendums. The question is if South Africa's government will be sanctioned too, despite the ANC's efforts to make it a party-issue.

The Russian news website, RIA Novosti, quoted ANCYL member, Khulekani Mondli Skosana, comparing the "Zelensky regime" with "apartheid South Africa" and that they both "seek to separate people according to their ethnic origin."

Although we cannot comment on whether this is true from an outsider's perspective, we are inclined to disregard it mainly for one reason:
The ANC and their politicians have a reoccurring theme of blaming everything in South Africa on "the legacy of apartheid" in order to shift the blame away from themselves. This includes the current electricity crisis, the failing economy, increase in crime, and more.

2022-09-26 11:55:36 PRESS RELEASE: Political parties, civic organisations, and legal experts join forces to fight for Western Cape autonomy. Devolved policing power and provincial referendum legislation will be initial focus.

Western Cape Devolution Working Group Formed

The inaugural meeting of the group was held this week and was attended by several organisations including the Democratic Alliance (DA), Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus), African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Cape Independence Party (CIP), Afriforum, Cape Independence Advocacy Group (CIAG), Action Society, Cape Forum, Saai, and several legal experts.

The initial focus of the group will be on the devolution of policing powers to the province and clearing the legislative hurdles which prevent the Western Cape Premier from exercising his constitutional right to directly consult the Western Cape people on specific issues via referendums.

The group will use all legal means at its disposal including formal legislation, political lobbying, legal action, public participation, and peaceful mass mobilisation.
