For those who might be interested in the relations between Turkey and Greece, a good recommendation is to watch the documentary "Lethal Nationalism: The Genocide of the Greeks 1913-1923" (2020)

It tells in detail what happened during what is known as "The Greek Genocide" when the Turks started an ethnic cleansing campaign against Greeks all over Turkey, destroying thousands of years of history

Villages, Churches, Schools and everything else that had belonged to the Greeks for thousands of years was either stolen or destroyed and 700 000+ Indigenous Greeks were killed

This is one of the best produced and well made documentaries I (admin) have ever seen, it doesn't focus on drama or sentimentalism, but rather in reports, statements, data and historical records

Turkey's ties with Algeria have been very strong and its influence is well known, by citing 'political islamists' Macron was undoubtedly referring to Turkey, which led to the reaction cited above. Turkey is seen as one of the countries in the world with the strongest islamic policies despite not being fully theocratic

The Greek government denies the information released by the Turkish media and supported by the Turkish Defense ministry claiming that Greek Aerial Defense Systems would have targeted Turkish jets since the S-300 system was not activated on that date

These news are common praxis of the Turkish government and media, fake scandals to distract the Turkish population from internal problems and to raise tensions between the two countries.

The scandal goes down the drain when it is informed that the S-300s were not even active that day, but the most interesting fact about the scandal is that Turkey has contantly been performing overflights above Greek islands in the Aegean for the past few weeks

Out of the 36 illegal immigrants, 11 are minors (6 boys and 5 girls), 11 women and 14 men

The boat was most likely heading towards Italy when it started sinking

The sailboat carrying the illegal immigrants were sinking and they were "rescued" by a cargo ship that warned the Greek Authorities

The group of illegal immigrants was of 69. Among the 69 illegal immigrants 61 are Iranian nationals (33 men, 12 women, 11 boys and 5 girls), 2 Afghan nationals( 1 man and 1 boy) and 6 Turks (all men)

According with the minister, around 25 000 people tried to enter Greece illegally through the Evros border section between Greece and Turkey

According with statements by some illegal immigrants, they have been arrested in Turkish cities such as Constantinople and taken to immigrant camps in border areas, moved to several known crossing spots at the border (by the Turkish authorities) and then forced to cross into Greece otherwise they would get deported to their countries of origin

The Greek Government intends to extend its border fence in Evros

KYSEA (Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence) had a meeting recently where they decided to extend the border fence in Evros by 80 additional Kilometers (49,7 mi), which would add to the already existing 38 Km (23,6 mi) that have alrready been built.

Greece has subitted a request for funding from the EU, the request comes after the number of illegal immigrants is 3x the number of illegal immigrants from 2021 (post here)

The decision came after the scandal fabricated by Turkey (link to post here) where they moved a group of illegal immigrants along the border with Greece and sent them across the river to an islet in shallow waters

The border between Greece and Turkey is approximately 200km long, if the 80 km of border fence gets built by the end of this year, it would be a major factor to make illegal immigration harder
